https://thetorggler.org/exhibitions/upcoming/armor-of-god.html #armorofgodFeaturing linoleum cuts and lithographs by master printmaker Steve Prince, this exhibition explores themes of social justice and divine protection as they pertain to African American history and experience. Armor of God is derived from Ephesians 6:11, “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” This body of work reimagines this line of scripture, referencing it through an "AOG" symbol that appears repeatedly throughout the work, serving as a signifier of an omnipotent, omnipresent power that thwarts evil and defends the righteous.
The Armor of God exhibition is held in conjunction with the Leah Glenn Dance Theatre performance of “Nine” at the Ferguson Center for the Arts on February 22, 2025. Prince designed the sets and costumes for “Nine,” a commemorative multi-media performance piece inspired by the Little Rock Nine.
A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Prince is a current resident of Williamsburg, Virginia, where he serves as the Director of Engagement and Distinguished Artist in Residence at the Muscarelle Museum of Art at William and Mary. Prince received his BFA from Xavier University of Louisiana and his MFA in Printmaking and Sculpture from Michigan State University. A mixed media artist, master printmaker, lecturer, educator, and art evangelist, Prince has taught at the middle school, high school, and college levels and has conducted projects and workshops internationally.
