In 2015 the Argentine Congress introduced Copyright Bill No. 2517-D-2015, re: copyright of photographs. If passed, the bill will prohibit public access to a vast trove of photographs from the Argentine Dictatorship (1976-1983). The Argentine people would lose access to their traumatic history.
By extensively manipulating the images, Mercedes will have the legal rights to personally copyright the altered images and donate them back into the public domain. This newly-created archive will be the only publicly accessible photographic archive of the Argentine dictatorship.
