Human rights are central to many current discussions of justice and much of our understanding of international politics. However, while quantitative data are common in the discussion of most public policies, they are often missing in discussions of human rights. In this talk, we'll discuss the many challenges in using quantitative measures in human rights advocacy, and the many ways that one organization, the Human Rights Measurement Initiative (HRMI), is trying to overcome those challenges. Ultimately, HRMI's efforts are aimed at producing human rights data that are valid, reliable, and most importantly, accessible and understandable by everyone.
