Process, Practice, and Preoccupations: Writing Contemporary Northern Ireland

Winner of the EU Prize for Fiction, Jan Carson will speak about the particularities of writing in a post-conflict society, in her case, Northern Ireland.  Carson, whose unique literary world blends Northern Irish culture with magical realism — and a strong dose of black humor — will read from recent work and discuss how she transforms a conflict-riven society through the practice (and magic) of fiction.
