About this Event
Seeking Perpetual Peace in a Time of Endless War
Lecture and Book Signing by
Alan Greeley Misenheimer
In 35 years as a career Foreign Service Officer, Alan Greeley Misenheimer conducted American diplomacy in every country in the Middle East and North Africa except Algeria, Iran and Lebanon. His travels as policy advisor to a four-star U.S. military commander literally spanned the globe, including Europe, Africa and the Indo-Pacific.
Misenheimer worked on alliance building and peacemaking initiatives, including Israeli-Palestinian negotiations; but after the 9/11 attacks his assignments increasingly focused on counter-terrorism and military operations, including in Yemen, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Since retiring from the State Department Misenheimer has completed a long-delayed doctorate at Georgetown University and pursued teaching and writing on national security themes with the aim of training, mentoring and challenging a new generation of citizen-strategists.
He and his wife will soon celebrate their 38th anniversary. They have two children, one a journalist and one a US Navy officer.
