The event will spotlight Puerto Rican culture through Plena, a native and folkloric genre of music that has deep cultural roots and meaning. As part of our showcase, we are bringing in local Plena artists from the Puerto Rican diaspora who will help teach the CNU community to play it. A local youth dance studio, owned by a professional Puerto Rican dancer, will bring in a group of girls who will demonstrate how it is danced. The event will culminate in what is called a "Plenazo," which is a community gathering of people playing music and singing together.
